I'm looking for a drum with a good loud treble like a dumbek. I prefer something tribal or cultural, but if it sounds good that's probably the most important thing.. I've heard of some peeps having smaller african drums with great sound. Trouble is, I wouldn't know where to look in the Bay area. At this time I have a Remo Djembe which is ok, but I don't like how it sits. It'd probably be better if I had a stand for it, as it slips from between my legs when I'm playing it. Would like an easy-to-hold drum. All recommendations are greatly appreciated! Wouldn't mind a Dumbek but, am looking for something different.

Re: Looking for a unique drum, got any recommendations?
Fri, December 1, 2006 - 7:01 PMHi John,
I sell djembe drums and African percussion. I have over fourty djembes as well as duns, kora etc. etc. I am in the south bay. What you need is a djembe tuned very high, Guinea style. I have some awesome top of the line Guinea djembes that I'd be happy for you to audition.
Thanks,
Arnold 'Djembe Man'

Re: Looking for a unique drum, got any recommendations?
Mon, May 7, 2007 - 7:35 PMIt's hard to determine by what you mean about a drum that "sounds good," but I'm thinking that a small ashiko might be a good idea for you. They're usually lighter than a djembe and they are louder than they look. Very portable. If you're not familiar with them, here's a picture -- www.everyonesdrumming.com/image...p.jpg. -

Re: Looking for a unique drum, got any recommendations?
Tue, May 15, 2007 - 1:05 PMHey e,
Wow- I've never seen this type of drum before. I think I'd like to play with one. I'll have to see where I might find one in the area.
Also, I've been eyeing some tribal drums from the Philippines lately. Thanks for the info- I really like the site (but the link doesn't work- for some reason the link was changed while posting?)..
Peace,
~John
